Thirteen Step Action Plan For Everyone, That Needs More Business Now.
In my previous Life as a carpet cleaner, the Winter months of January, February, and March, were faced with Fear and trepidation. Not Just myself, But everyone in Our industry, feared these months.
Why?
It Was always the slowest Time of Year for This industry. If You think About it for a Second, this seasonal slump occurred simply due to the Weather. Few homeowners Wanted to Have their carpets cleaned in the winter months. Sub-Zero temperatures, slushy, messy, Spring thaw conditions and Post holiday season credit Cards bills All conspired to keep the phone From ringing.
That put the carpet cleaner, Flush with the prosperity of the previous months before the Holidays, in a really Tough situation if they did not prepare for the slow times. Kinda Like the Ant and the grasshopper fable.
The winter of 2000 proved to be a very good One for me. The marketing push I put on in November and December was carrying me Through these lean times. My marketing Machine was bringing in a constant supply of New and prior clients for me.
However that was not the same for Many of my peers on the industry bulletin boards and forums. Many were complaining about How slow it was for them. I just shook my Head. Why were they not prepared? I knew it would take them until May or June just to catch up on the expenses they were behind on unless they could Make the phone Ring now.
So I put together What Has since become known as the “Paul Douglas Action Plan”. I took the steps outlined in this plan and modified it to fit any business that needs to Blast Out of a slow season slump. So with that said, Here is the 13 step plan of action for everyone that needs more business now.
Flyers: Put out twice as many of Your Most productive flyers every week for every sales Rep in your business. New prospects Are the life blood of every business. Without them sales Will wither and Die. Sales slumps Can usually be Broken by simply doubling your marketing effort.
Direct Mail: Direct mail works. It has been used Ever since the invention of the postage Stamp. Buy or rent a list of names and addresses of prospects that fit your Ideal client demographic. Mail one hundred prospecting letters a week out to this list for every person in your Company that needs a new lead. A 1% response means one new client/lead per week.
The letter you send out does not have to be Perfect. It just needs to be sent. Split testing future mailings will allow you to improve on the letter you mail. So Don‘t worry about the letter you are sending. Just send it. And send it once a week.
Follow up: Here is a seldom used Secret of direct mail that will at least Double the response of your mailing. Call them. People are very busy. Many times they will receive an Offer that is irresistible. They are about to take the desired action and Bang! Something sidetracks them. The sales momentum is gone. Your offer is forgotten.
Contact the recipient. Jar their memory and convert more sales out of your mailing. This step alone will put you head and shoulders above your competition that doesn’t follow up
Joint Ventures: One of the fastest ways to build a client list is to use someone else’s. Every industry and profession has natural referral partners. These are companies that serve the exact same clients you do with non-competing products and services.
Create an exclusive Special offer for their clients. Then have them mail this special offer to their list of clients. Now you may be wondering, “Why on Earth would anyone do this for you?” They will do it because it will Help them stay in Touch with their clients. It will create goodwill for them by giving them such a Great offer. You Made it simple and Easy to do. And you reciprocated and mailed a special promotion to your Own client list, promoting their business.
In a nutshell a good JV or joint Venture consists of the following.
1. A letter of introduction or endorsement printed on the JV partner’s letterhead, and Signed by the JV partner (And yes, you should offer to replace the letterhead that is used).
2. A sales letter from yourself, promoting the exclusive special offer, which you and your JV partner created just for them.
3. A coupon summarizing the offer, as a secondary response mechanism.
4. Your business Card and brochure.
5. Mail all the above in the JV partners envelopes (and yes, you will need to replace the envelopes as Well).
Later in this article I will share with you how to simply and easily Find your JV partners.
JV Thank-you Gifts: Remember the coupon that was to be enclosed in the mailing? Give your JV Partner these same coupons to give away to their new clients. The ones that did not receive the mailing. Everyone loves a gift. It cements relationships. Everyone loves giving gifts. Most of all everyone loves giving away valuable Free gifts.
Prior Clients: Contact 15 prior clients every Day. Let them know you are still Alive. Advise them When you call that you are making a courtesy follow up call. Make sure they are Happy with their Last purchase. Ask them if There is any Way you can be of service. In some cases, you may generate new business with your clients. More often Than naught, you will find your referral rate soaring after making these calls.
Cold Call: Very few people enjoy cold calling. I am one of them. But if I had a choice of cold calling or starving, I’ll cold call. Contact 30 cold prospects every day, in the market area you want to Work in.
Market To Your Client’s Neighbor’s: You just finished your service or delivered your product. Tell your client’s neighbors. Birds of a feather tend to flock together. Chances are good your client’s neighbor would be a Qualified prospect for you as well.
Reward Referrals: Offer a Cash reward or Store/business credit to anyone that gives you a referral now. Appeal to people’s greed and pay them for their referrals. If you currently use a referral reward program, increase the Value of the reward.
Referral Clubs: A great networking opportunity. The biggest organization that I know of is BNI. In a nutshell a referral Club is a Group of business owners, like yourself Who are constantly on the lookout to help their clients with preferred service providers. The Key secret here is to give more referrals than you receive. This is Where you should start looking for JV Partners.
Service clubs: Join a service club or your local chamber of commerce. Attend the meetings, do the service and volunteer work. This is Another great networking opportunity and JV Partner source
Shameless Bribe: Offer a Strong incentive to use your services now. It will be Too late when you Get past your slow season. A discount, a contest, whatever, be creative.
Your Own Ideas: I am sure you came up with a few of your own ideas to increase business. Implement them
Now here is the biggest key. Don’t do one at a time. Don’t just do the ones you like and ignore the rest. Do them all Right now. Not Tomorrow, not next week, NOW! This is the Success Law of taking massive action. It doesn’t matter which success guru you subscribe to, they all tell you to take action. Massive action yields massive results. Taking action, even if it happens to be the wrong action, will produce results simply because you created momentum. So take action. Don’t think about it, DO IT NOW!

A Positive January Means an up Year for Stocks
Stocks continue to maintain a positive bias in January, with technology and small-caps leading the charge. The NASDAQ is up Over three percent in the First two weeks of January. The small-Cap Russell 2000 is up 2.30%, while DOW and S&P 500 are up about 1.33% and 2.07%, respectively, in January.
Some of you understand how important the month of January is to the rest of the year. An interesting historical pattern will be in Play this month Called the “January Effect.”
The theory is that what the S&P 500 does in January will likely dictate the rest of the year. Consider that, since 1950, this relationship has been accurate in 54 of the 60 Years, or 90% of the time. This is Amazing and, unless we See a Major development such as worsening debt in Europe, stalling growth in China, or stagnant economic growth, the January Effect will occur, so let’s keep a Close Eye on what happens this month.
The Price charts of the key indices I follow continue to favor additional advances.
Overall, the Near-term technical Picture remains bullish on above-average Relative Strength, but you should Watch the overbought technical Condition.
Sentiment continues to be bullish. The trend of the NYSE new-High/new-low (NHNL) Index has been edging Higher, with 125 of the last 131 sessions bullish. Yet, the investor sentiment Reading on the NYSE was Unusual last Thursday. The reading showed 70 new lows along with 309 new highs. There have not been this many new lows on the NYSE since 80 new lows were recorded Back on August 31, 2010.
Perhaps we are seeing a loss of momentum? I doubt it and feel it may just be a Case of some profit taking.
In the technology area, investor sentiment on the NASDAQ has been Mixed since May 6, but 84 of the last 89 sessions have been bullish.
Below find a brief commentary with each of the Four indices.
NASDAQ
The near-term technical picture is bullish on above-neutral Relative Strength (RS), so there could be more upside gains in the near term.
The index is above 2,700 and holding well above Its chart Top of 2,320.
The NASDAQ is holding above its 50-day moving average (MA) of 2,607 and 200-day MA of 2,387. The 50-day MA is above the 200-day MA and is showing a bullish Golden Cross.
Watch, as the index is extremely overbought, so there could be some near-term selling pressure.
DOW
The near-term technical picture for the DOW is bullish on above-neutral RS, so there could be additional gains in the near term.
The index is above its 50-day MA of 11,406. The 50-day MA is holding above its 200-day MA of 10,775.
Watch, as the index is overbought.
S&P 500
In the broader market, the near-term technical signals for the S&P 500 are bullish on above-neutral RS, so there could be more gains.
The break at 1,200 was bullish. The index is above its 50-day MA of 1,231 and 200-day MA of 1,151. The 50-day MA is above its 200-day MA.
Watch, as the index is overbought.
RUSSELL 2000
The near-term picture for the Russell 2000 is bullish on above-neutral RS, so watch for some more gains. The index trades with the economy.
The index is hovering Around 800 and is above its 50-day MA of 759 and the 200-day MA of 686.
Watch, as the index is overbought.
The key for stocks will be to hold above the 50-day MA and the previous chart tops. And, as Long as the sentiment remains bullish and January Returns positive, I expect more gains this year.

Universal Principles of Yoga (Part 5)
Kundalini Yoga: Is unity through awakening psychic nerve Force, which indicates the depth of this Yoga style. Kundalini Yoga is sometimes referred to as the “Mother of all Yogas.” On the surface Kundalini Yoga might resemble Hatha Yoga, but the emphasis on the subtle body, chakras, mantras, meditation, and Pranayama is presented in a uniquely powerful way.
Kundalini Yoga was cloaked in secrecy until Yogi Bhajan gave a lecture in Los Angeles during January of 1969. Until that time, most information about Kundalini Yoga had been exchanged verbally from teacher to student. So, this was the beginning of Kundalini Yoga teaching “going public.”
The awakening of Kundalini energy starts with focusing on dormant energy at the base of the Spine Within the first major Chakra; also known as the Muladhara Chakra. Through asanas, coordinated Pranayama, Japa (repeating mantras), and meditation, the Kundalini energy is sent up the spine to the Sahasrara Chakra at the Crown of the head.
Samadhi, also known as intuitive enlightenment, is one of the most sought after results of Kundalini Yoga practice. Therefore, Kundalini attracts a much Different Type of student and Yoga teacher from what is most commonly found in a Hatha Yoga class. This is neither right, nor wrong, but most Hatha Yoga students are not usually pursuing a spiritual transformation process.
As a side note: Kundalini has taken a few verbal assaults, from religious fundamentalists, for being a bit Mystical and a Little harder to understand. Based upon my own experience, Kundalini Yoga sessions will purge Negative energy from your Mind and body. Only positive results can be gained in the study of Kundalini Yoga, Under the supervision of a competent Kundalini Yoga teacher.
Mantra Yoga: Is unity through sound. Mantra Yoga is also referred to as Japa Yoga and the repeating of particular Mantras will cause sensory withdrawal (Pratyahara). This is, in Fact, easier for most people to accomplish than meditation and it allows the Mantra Yoga practitioner to remove negative energy from the body, mind, and Spirit.
In Sanskrit Mantra literally means “tool for thinking” or “tool for thought.” The purpose of Mantra Yoga is to achieve salvation through unity with the supreme consciousness, which you many people refer to as God, Brahman, Yahweh, Jehovah, or Allah. The repeating of Mantras, which is also known as Japa, is in fact prayer. So, Mantra Yoga may not look like much “from the outside looking in,” but it is a deeply spiritual, powerful, and rewarding Yoga practice, in its own right.

Projector Fun in January by Andy Grant
January is usually cold and dreary for most families. While playing in the Snow is fun, it’s not something you can do all month long. Plus, skiing and snowboarding can be expensive activities. A rental projector gives you the opportunity to have some Real Family fun on a budget.
Going to the Movies can be an ordeal – not to mention expensive outing — for Large families. A rental projector, however, is a great budget solution. You don’t have to worry about buying expensive snacks. Pop your own popcorn, and grab some candy at the grocery store. Then, gather up the blankets, and Set up your own cozy home theater.
This is a great idea for the coldest and snowiest days of January. Make it an Annual or Weekly tradition. Your Kids will have something to look forward to at the End of a long School day.
Get Your Exercise On
We all need some Extra exercise during the winter months. Study after study proves that we eat more when the days are shorter and colder. Exercising around a small Television Screen, however, can be difficult. Showcase that exercise Dvd on a large Wall in your home with a projector and screen.
This gives you plenty of time to bust a move and work Off some of the extra pounds that you may have added over the holiday season. It’s also a great way to secure some Quality family time.
Create a Dance Revolution or Sing Off
Games like Guitar Hero are highly popular, but they are even more exciting on the Big screen. You can set up a rental projector for your next Party, especially your January Birthday parties. All of the attendees can then participate, leaving no one out.
If you aren’t one to dance the night away, you can always have a sing off with your Friends and family. Rent a projector and a karaoke machine, and sing along with your Favorite songs. Make it a competition, and pick a winner after everyone has had a turn.
A Whole New Way to Scrapbook
Most of us have hundreds — if not thousands — of digital Pictures of our family sitting on our computer. We Almost Never Print these out. Say goodbye to the Old year by gathering the family around the projector screen, and go through your collected memories from the previous year.
Find your favorite digital pictures, enhance them with online software programs, and make your own virtual scrapbook. These online programs allow you to add embellishments similar to stickers. If you have “swag” that you collected from Travels, photograph these items, and upload them to your virtual scrapbook. Use a slideshow program, add some transitions, and set the photographs to music.
Finally, get a rental projector, and Show off all of your Hard work.
If you choose a slide show for your next presentation or family gathering, be sure to rent a projector from the industry leaders: Projector123.com. Click here to learn more.
