WebPR in a Nutshell
The recent buzz AroundWebPR, Optimised Press Releases, Online Reputation Management, and Bloggingetc. is causing Quite a stir. It seems There is a whole New lexicon emerging and Many Are struggling to keep up with the eMarketing geeks and their fancy new terminology. However, the bottom Line is Thatthe fundamentals of good PR still apply- it’s Only the medium and methodology that are changing. So, with my broadband connection inserted intravenously, I am going to attempt to Give You the low-down of What it’s All About.
WebPRshould be Split Into two Different tracks: ‘listening’ and ‘Talking‘. While Both require independent skills and tactics, they are still inherently tied together – a bit Like bangers and mash.
First the Listening…
Given the harsh reality that Your customers probably Don‘t care about you, let’s Begin with what I consider the More important side of the equation: the ‘listening’. On a basic level, This involves monitoring the Internet for conversations about your Brand and even your competitors’ brands. Tracking blogs, websites, chatrooms and wikis via tools such as Technorati, Pubsub and Google Alerts Can deliver this info directly into your email inbox or RSS feed Reader (…if you don’t know what an RSS feed reader is, stop Reading, slap yourself, and go and Find Out!).
With a Collection of information-seeking Robots at your disposal, it is relatively Easy to keep your Finger on the pulse of what is being said. The skill is in distilling this information into something you can use so that you can devise strategies to manipulate the conversation to go in the direction you want it to. While it’s Impossible to ‘control the conversation’, being a Part of it, and influencing it, is critical for the survival for any brand in today’s hyper-connected World.
Then the Talking…
Now for the Other side of WebPR: the ‘talking’. Outgoing communications can take a Huge variety of forms online. One such method, online press releases, should deliver Value to the reader since as mentioned before; People don’t care about your brand. If you’ve Just opened a new office in Timbuktu, people don’t give a damn, But they do care about things that Help them – so valuable enriching content is a Must. Secondly, online press releases should Drive traffic to your site (your website is Not a fancy brochure – it is a marketing tool that needs visitors to become customers). To achieve this, press releases need to be search engine optimised to contain related Key phrases and links.
Tying in with online press releases is the writing of Feature articles which Offer the opportunity to jump even further onto the value bandwagon, allowing you to become the dominant opinion Leader in your industry. For example, if you sell Holidays to Cape Town, your online marketing efforts Will greatly benefit if your Target market considers you a leader in this Field. This is Where ‘value-content’ comes in. Articles containing information for the potential traveller, such as “The Top 10 things to remember When travelling to Cape Town” are value-adding – people Love this Stuff! The valuable nature of this content means it attracts links naturally – the Valhalla of SEO. It should also contain an understated mention of your brand. And, if published on a Third Party site, should carry a Link Back to your Own website. This drives site visitors Who are automatically predisposed to your brand, and therefore are more likely to engage and buy your product.
Another critical aspect of the talking side of WebPR is your voice in the blogosphere. This can take on many forms. For example, your Company should Have a ‘Blog‘ and your staff should be encouraged to blog. But, perhaps more importantly is listening to other bloggers – what they say about your brand and then commenting and responding where appropriate. There have been numerous examples of brands Cut to shreds by ignoring the blogosphere. Kryptonite springs to Mind and the once Mighty Dell is undergoing a serious beating.
On the other side of the coin are brands that have embraced rather Than shunned the blogosphere, and they have grown leaps and bounds as a result. South Africa’s own Stormhoek Wine is a Perfect example of this. They practically launched themselves using blogs and, after chatting to their marketing Team, it is obvious that this campaign Has become the stuff of legends despite a meagre budget.
Balance is Key
The key to effective WebPR is balancing the two sides: ‘listening’ and ‘talking’. Too much talking and you become an out-of-Touch loudmouth; too much listening and the conversation can go in the wrong direction. Once you have found the balance, it’s like finding ‘Zen’ for your brand. Now, like Never before, the opportunity to pay intimate attention to the market, and participate in a conversation that drives perception and ultimately purchases – is outstanding. Dana Rohrabacher Gets a Smackdown From Real Time Panel (crooksandliars)
The lesson the Barack Obama presidency should teach Democrats is the
Republican Party has only a glancing relationship to the truth and they will
continue to lie on camera as often as possible until their lies become
conventional wisdom. That’s why so many conservatives believe that President
Obama has raised taxes, wants to take away their guns (by pretending he
doesn’t) and initiated the bank bailout.
It works incredibly well. But you have to know your audience.
If you spout off factually untrue slams against Obama on Fox News, no one will
argue with you. In fact, it conforms with their agenda of misinforming their
audience.
But you don’t want to try that on a show like _Real Time with Bill Maher_,
because the audience and sometimes the other panel guests will call you out.
Case in point: Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) who chuckles like it’s common knowledge
that Obama wants to “gut” the military. But fellow guests Kennedy (no liberal,
she, although she’s clearly not grown out of her annoying MTV schtick), Martin
Bashir and host Bill Maher quickly demanded some badly needed fact-checking.
Not that it made an impact on Rohrabacher:

Common Granite Countertop Problems by Jitendra Kr
Granite countertops are a Major Investment for Most homeowners. In Fact, most owners Make the investment Without taking the time to understand a few very basic granite countertop problems and How to avoid them.
Not knowing the basics when it comes to properly caring for your granite countertops can be a very costly mistake.
The first Thing you should realize and keep in mind is that granite is a Stone that is by no means invulnerable to damage of any kind. Just as Superman had Kryptonite, granite has weak defenses Against acid. This is not Limited to acidic cleaning products but includes common kitchen items such as vinegar, alcohol, and Orange juice.
To avoid these types of granite countertop problems you should always use coasters beneath your drinks, wipe up any spills immediately, and use mild neutral cleaning products on your countertops.
When considering granite countertop problems, acid is not the only thing that Mars the lovely surface of Our shiny granite countertops. You should also take great care to avoid setting hot pots, plates, coffee pots, or baking pans directly onto your countertops. Use trivets to absorb the Heat and avoid costly repairs.
You should also avoid placing china and other objects that may scratch and/or dull your service onto your countertops as well. If you do find that your granite has been scratched it is probably in your best interest to either consult a Professional in order to remove it or simply learn to live with it.
Keeping Your Granite Countertops Clean
One of the most common granite countertop problems is actually keeping them clean. We live in our kitchens and so much occurs on these countertops daily that they require constant cleaning and care on our parts. The good news is that this is no problem if you are using the proper cleaning products and avoiding abrasive cleaners. The downside is that if you do not take care when cleaning you may actually damage your countertops.
The first thing you should do is make sure to clean up all spills quickly and completely. Allowing liquid to sit on your granite countertops is simply inviting them to penetrate the surface where they will be nearly, if not completely, impossible to remove.
You should also take great care that you are using only mild detergents that have no acidic properties (this means no vinegar or citrus based cleaners), no scouring properties (this means cleaners like Comet powder cleaners), and soft clean cloths in order to get the job done.
I strongly recommend that you discuss cleaning options and recommendations with the manufacturer of your countertops and follow their instructions. Many countertop makers design their own line of cleaning products that are designed specifically for the purpose of maximizing the Life and Beauty of their products. This may be a Little more expensive than some of the other cleaners on the market but is far less costly than purchasing a new granite slab in order to replace your countertops.
Proper Care
Proper care can go a Long Way towards avoiding common granite countertop problems. If you take small steps each and every Day to protect your countertops and prolong their life and good Looks you will Save yourself a Lot of money, time, and effort down the Road by eliminating the need to replace your countertops as frequently.
