What Your History Teacher Never Taught You About Life In the Loire Valley Royal Chateaux by Corina Clemence
The Image of the chateaux of this region may be all tapestries, towers and topiary and faded furniture But for 200 years, these great palaces were host to world-class debauchery and many murders. Loire Valley chateaux are bursting with Amazing Stories. At Chateau Chenonceau you can hear ‘The future King was 12 and he took a mistress aged thirty-two.’
Chateau Chenonceau has one of the most lively pasts. Here not Only did Henri II take a mistress 20 years his senior when he was 12, but Henri III also used the formal gardens for transvestite parties with his good Buddies, ‘the Sweeties’.
In Chateau Blois, Henri III invited a Rival to his ornate bed chamber then hid behind a curtain as Twenty hired Men jumped the wretch.
The chateau Guide can show you the exact location in Chateau Blois where 23 knife stabs were planted in the unfortunate Duke de Guise the Head of the Catholic League, by eight men armed with daggers and 12 with swords. You can even Watch a Black and White 12 minute silent Movie re-enacting the murder at Chateau Blois.
Today tourists at Chateau Blois can See the 237 Secret cabinets, which opened by stepping on a Hidden lever, where Catherine de Medici kept Her Personal papers, jewels and a collection of poisons. Catherine and her Son Henri III instigated the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre, which began in Paris and spread throughout France, resulting in the death of some 70,000 Protestants.
In Chinon, aristocratic ladies bunged unplanned babies down an 80 ft shaft, also the Castle toilet. And it was from his balcony at Chateau Amboise that Louis XII hung Protestant dissidents.
Today because of Cheap airfares to many exotic locations and perhaps because the curators of these celebrated chateaux typically ignore the colourful elements in their history these chateaux are chasing the tourist Dollar. Now chateaux across the Loire Valley region are hosting additional attractions: an international Annual garden festival at Chaumont, Horse show at Chambord, a Tintin exhibition at Cheverny, actors in period Costume and son et lumiere shows at many.
Most Key chateaux are in the 100-Mile stretch from Saumur to Orleans. The region around Blois is a Perfect base for visiting Blois, Cheverny, Chambord, Clos Luce, Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Chaumont, and Our favourite Chateau Chenonceau which attracts over 1 million visitors each year, the most out of all of the Loire Valley chateaux.
It is Easy to overdose on chateaux, so do not try and make any records by doing them all in one or two Days. Two in a day is enough and allows you plenty of time for relaxing and enjoying wine-tasting at a handful of vineyards sprinkled along the banks of the Loire River.
Corina Clemence runs a luxury castle in the Loire Valley, for up to 15 People Ideal for visiting vineyards, castles and relaxing with your Friends and family. Rent a castle in France http://www.loirechateau.com Rent Loire Valey castle

Secret Grub House in Glenwood Springs is Juicy Lucy‘s Steak and Seafood Restaurant – Eat out In Glenwood Springs
Places To Eat In Glenwood Springs
When we decided to alter our life and Escape the Rat Race of city life we started looking for our next heaven on earth. Residing on the California Coast was enjoyable, but crowded no matter what activities we decided to do. We had talked about Colorado and the wide open spaces, especially on the Western Slope with villages like Aspen and Vail that are smaller communities, but also popular cultural centers.
Flying into Grand Junction we ventured east on Interstate 70 to check out Western Colorado. It was late in the day when we arrived in Glenwood Springs and felt this would be a great place to spend the Night and then decide on Aspen or Vail the next day. We decided to stop at the historic Hotel Colorado and after settling into our Room we Wanted to see what Glenwood Springs had to Offer. The concierge suggested some small shops to see, but when we inquired about restaurants he said it depends on the food you wish to eat. Being in Colorado I wanted a nice steak, but my wife wanted seafood like in California. I explained to her the nearest Ocean was many Miles away, so the seafood could never be asflavorful as we could Get back Home, but she held her Foot down. So her recommendation was a small eatery directly across the bridge Called Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse where we could have the Best selection for Both.
Once we had finished visiting several small shops we found Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse and after a Short wait at the historic bar we sat down. As I reviewed the menu I Saw the Right meal for me, Colorado Elk Sirloin. All natural grilled elk sirloin sliced and served on sautéed portabella mushrooms, but I wassurprised by the {Fish|seafood|fresh catch| selections on the choices. I was even More impressed by their daily offerings like; Broiled Sea Scallops stuffed with Alaskan King Crab or Fresh fish Mequite Grilled over the BBQ. I had to inquire about the freshness and Quality since it was obvious the nearest Real Water was far away. He nurtured they only use the freshest ingredients and the shell fish is flown in each morning Six days a week. My wife choose the Sea Scallops and I have to say if you had no idea you were in {the Rocky mountains|Colorado|dry regions of the country| you would insist you just had dinner in a seafood restaurant on the ocean.
For our next days excursions we decided on Aspen, and couldn’t get over the small villages from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. Here we could ski in the winter, jeep in the summer, hike, bike and be by ourselves, or go to a Play or concert Almost any night. We found our heaven and knowing that regardless where we End up in the valley we were only a few minutes away from the Greatest seafood in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Who would have guessed that a restaurant named Juicy Lucy’s Steakhouse would Help us make one of the best choices of our life.
